Frida Kahlo styled shoot

This past Saturday I woke up extra early. That never happens internet. Ever. If you know me, you know that sleeping is my middle name. However, this past Saturday was different. I got out of bed doing the Harlem shake. I was that excited guys. The only other time I do happy dances is when I taste a new dessert but this was the day of the Frida Kahlo inspired shoot Ally from glitz and glam and I had been putting our crazy heads together for. After last year's styled photo shoot, she recommended that we do a styled shoot inspired by none other than Frida Kahlo herself. And me? Yeah, I died. The idea was brilliant, and after messaging each other back and forth pictures of girls with lace dresses, bright flowers in their hair and braids, we were both inspired to the tenth power square. Do the math. That's like a lot. We set out for hair and makeup early on Saturday and we even bumped some salsa music to get us even more inspired. We went back to our Latin roots ya'll! And our model? We couldn't have been more lucky to have the fabulous Shiany again on board with us to rock this look like nobody's business. She is awesome to work with and I am so proud of the look we managed to pull off for this shoot. It was really hard choosing what pictures to put on this post. I loved them all! Awesome work ladies! :)

For this particular shoot I really wanted to really push and challenge myself to get the types of shots I envisioned in my head. I wanted this shoot to truly highlight the traditional Mexican colors and fashion Frida was so famous for. For weeks I studied different poses that would go with this type of shoot and thought of various locations that would fit as the backgrounds. I decided to go with various old looking backdrops that highlighted Shiany's wardrobe and ones that gave the shoot an old Mexican flare. To Ally, THANK YOU for your amazing hair and makeup skills. You truly brought to life the vision I had in mind for this shoot. Thank you for coming up with awesome ideas and giving me the chance to photograph them. I can't picture myself collaborating with anyone else. You truly get me. And to Shiany, THANK YOU for being such an awesome sport, and thank you for not hating me after making you do some crazy poses that left your arms sore the next day. lol You rock girl! :)

      So pretty. :)

Love this part of the shoot!
    One of my favorites.

And I'll end with my favorite. So Frida. :)

The Aguero Family

The day was perfect. The afternoon sun peeked through the oak trees at Fairmount Park and I instantly knew it would be an amazing day to shoot. However, the crisp and golden lighting wasn't the only thing I was excited about. I was more excited about having the Aguero family in front of the camera and having the pretty light as their backdrop. A few weeks ago I posted on my Facebook page that I was giving away a free photo shoot to the person that guessed the next styled shoot, and after several comments, Yanira Aguero popped up on my comment box with the right answer. We scheduled a day to shoot and I was even more excited when she asked if I could also have a shoot with her family. I've known them for a few years now and they're a blast to be around! Seriously, any family that is willing to walk on a dock full of duck poop for a good shot is a thug and my kind of peoples. So to the Aguero family, thank you so much for making my job so much fun! Snapping pictures of you guys felt less like work and more like hanging out with friends but with a camera. You guys are awesome, really. :)

p.s. Yanira, I'm stealing your outfit girl. haha

 Work-it!
Introducing, the adorable Josiah and Aleyna.
Really guys, really?? :)

Thoughts on becoming an unti...

It's crazy how life can bring you the most unexpected surprises. It's those amazing, life changing surprises that make life that much sweeter. Last year in October we celebrated my older sister's birthday. We grubbed, laughed, and as the day wined down, my brother in law and my sister gathered the family around the living room and gave us the greatest surprise ever. They were expecting their first baby. As we congratulated them with lots of warm hugs, tears of joy ran down our faces and we looked forward to meeting the new addition to the family, a beautiful baby boy. The first grandchild and my very first nephew. It's moments like these I'm thankful for and seven months later we can't wait to finally see his little face! This Saturday is my sister's baby shower. A day she's been busting her creative butt off to show a room full of ladies that Pinterest is a gift from God to baby momma's. I've never seen so many coffee filters used for something other than to make coffee in my life. All I have to say is if this is how my little nephew's baby shower is going to look like, and he's not even born yet, I can't imagine what his birthdays will look like. I foresee a photo booth and sitting in the kitchen making cake toppers out of wire and tissue paper in the future. Lord help us all. And of course I'll be that aunt that always takes him out to get ice cream and buys him really unnecessary toys because that's what every cool aunt does. And I'll be the aunt drinking coffee from a mug that says "world's best aunt." I went a little online crazy and found some really cool aunt gear. Yeah, I went there!

I WILL be a wicked cool aunt.

Watch out Tyra Banks.

And then, I saw THIS! I died.
